ABOUT

My name is Raeleen Gladwell, the creative force behind the brand. After a long career in teaching I am now pursuing a more creative life.

In my Suffolk countryside workshop, I meticulously design, cut, stitch, and finish each leather piece by hand.

My focus is on uncluttered designs and traditional techniques, showcasing the inherent beauty of vegetable-tanned leather. Each piece is crafted to last, offering timeless designs and durability.

The vegetable-tanned leather I exclusively use retains its natural charm and develops a rich patina over time, ensuring that every piece tells its own unique story.
MARBLED LEATHER

During lockdown I had the time to experiment with marbling. I fell in love with the effect produced. It was all trial, error and experimenting to produce a finish that was durable.

Marbling is the art of printing multi-coloured swirls or patterns on to leather. The patterns are formed by first floating the leather paint on the surface of slightly thickened water and the laying the untreated leather onto the colours to absorb it.
The leather is then rinsed, allowed to dry, buffed, sealed, conditioned followed by further buffing. This process ensures that the colours will last as long as your leather item.

As with all vegetable tanned leather it will slightly darken with age to produce a rich and silky finish. At times the underside will also be coloured this is unavoidable and does not affect the structure of the leather or your piece.
